TenseUp ("we", "our", or "the App") is an AI-powered English grammar practice application. Your privacy is important to us. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices.

1. Information We Collect

Voice & Text Data: When you use the speech-to-text feature, your spoken words are transcribed on your device using Apple's Speech framework or Whisper AI (Premium+ only). The transcribed text is sent to OpenAI's API for grammar analysis and AI conversation features.

Subscription Information: If you subscribe to TenseUp Premium or Premium+, payment is processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We do not collect or store your payment details. We receive only a confirmation of your subscription status through RevenueCat, our subscription management service.

Usage Data: We track basic usage counts (e.g., daily practice sessions, streak tracking) locally on your device using UserDefaults and SwiftData. This data is not transmitted to any external server.

Vocabulary Data: Words you save to your vocabulary list are stored locally on your device using SwiftData.

By using TenseUp's AI features (conversations, grammar check, role-play, lessons), you explicitly consent to your conversation data being sent to OpenAI for processing. You can stop using AI features at any time by closing the app or deleting your account.

2. Other Third-Party Services

RevenueCat: Used to manage subscriptions. RevenueCat receives an anonymous app user ID to verify subscription status. RevenueCat does not receive your conversation data. See RevenueCat's Privacy Policy.

Apple Speech Framework: Speech recognition (Standard mode) is processed on-device or through Apple's servers, subject to Apple's Privacy Policy.

Whisper AI (Premium+ only): Advanced speech recognition is processed through OpenAI's Whisper API. Audio recordings are sent to OpenAI, transcribed, and then deleted. Transcriptions are handled as described in the OpenAI section above.

3. Data Storage & Security

Your practice history, vocabulary list, and usage statistics are stored locally on your device using SwiftData and UserDefaults. We do not operate external servers that store your personal data. All communication with third-party APIs (OpenAI, RevenueCat) uses encrypted HTTPS connections.

4. How to Control Your Data

Stop sharing data with OpenAI: Stop using the AI features (conversations, grammar check, role-play, lessons). The app will continue to work for vocabulary review and streak tracking.

Delete your local data: Delete the TenseUp app from your device. This will remove all locally stored practice history, vocabulary, and statistics.

Cancel subscription: Go to Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions on your device.

5. Children's Privacy

TenseUp is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has used our app, please contact us.
